What Affects the Price of a Skip Bin

Bin size

Bigger bins cost more in total but usually less per cubic metre, so one bigger bin is often cheaper than two small ones. Check what fits in our bin sizes guide.

Waste type

General and green waste are the cheapest. Soil, concrete, bricks and mixed heavy waste cost more because tips charge by the tonne and these loads are much heavier.

Weight

General and green waste bins include about 150kg per cubic metre, so a 4m³ bin takes up to 600kg. Go over that and the supplier charges for the extra weight.

Hire length

Prices include up to 7 days. Longer hires are charged per extra day, and your quote shows the total before you pay.

Where you live

Each supplier sets its own prices, and tip fees and travel from the depot differ between areas. That is why the same bin can cost more in one suburb than the next.

Permits and extras

No permit is needed if the bin sits on your property. On the street or nature strip your council charges a permit fee, explained on your council's page above. Mattresses and tyres can be added for a per-item fee shown in your quote.
